Jackie Aina
The next in our Spotlight Series features someone who has long-challenged the status quo in the representation of women of color in the beauty industry. We are so happy to put the spotlight on Jackie Aina, in honor of and celebrating Black History Month.
If you don’t already know, Jackie Aina is a Nigerian-American beauty influencer who came on the scene with her first make-up tutorial video on YouTube in 2009. She quickly realized that being her authentic self was the best way to create a loyal following. Jackie wanted to establish a more diverse space in the beauty industry which was lacking when she was growing up. With over 3.5M YouTube subscribers, she is more than an influencer, she is a force who is asking brands to step up in more ways than one. Jackie has used her platform to advocate for inclusivity and to hold brands accountable and “put their money where their mouth is” to use their influence to support the black community.
In addition to using her voice, she is making real strides in the beauty industry with her business endeavors. In 2018 Too Faced and Jackie launched their long-awaited Born This Way foundation collab to expand the brand’s complexion colors with 11 new hues, 9 of which she helped develop. Similarly, in 2019 Anastasia Beverly Hills and Jackie launched the ABH X Jackie Aina eye palette collection, created with shades that would shine on deep skin tones. Jackie’s latest undertaking is all her own though- a self-care lifestyle platform @LavishlyJackie and FORVR MooD, her “luxe” made affordable candle and scent brand.
With so much success under her belt, there’s no telling what’s next for Jackie.. Whatever it is, we’re here for it!
