It’s National Grilled Cheese Day- who knew that was a thing? We couldn’t let the day pass without highlighting some of the cheesiest, must-try, grilled creations across the country!

#5 Clinton Hall: New York, NY

Get ready- this one is extra gooey! Clinton Hall is home to The Famous Doughnut Grilled Cheese. There is nothing more genius than this combo of two of our favorite things! The cheesy deliciousness is made with a fresh glazed donut sliced in half, topped with mozzarella cheese, heated on a griddle, and then hung over a bowl of roasted tomato soup. Yup- the grilled cheese is actually placed on a banana holder with the cheese oozing right into the soup below.

They are not messing around, and neither should you- there’s a limited availability daily, so you better move quickly!

#4 Beecher’s Handmade Cheese: Seattle, WA

If you’re looking for a full-on cheese experience, this is the place! This cheese-heaven was founded in 2003, in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market. It all began by partnering with local dairies to become the only artisan cheesemaker in Seattle. With a unique concept, Beecher’s set up shop with its cheese making kitchen and storefront all in one.

For years, customers have been able to watch the magic happen while shopping for cheese and other offerings- including the amazing grilled cheese! Every sandwich is made with the Beecher’s Flagship + Just Jack cheese and then grilled to perfection in a panini press, making it extra crunchy. You can keep it simple or get crazy and try the Kimchi, Tuna Melt or some of the other fun flavors. Keep it cheesy and check out the Tomato Flagship Soup and the “World’s Best” Mac & Cheese while you’re there!

#3 Gayle V’s Best Ever Grilled Cheese: Chicago, IL

To understand Gayle’s grilled cheese, you have to first understand how this hidden treasure came about. Gayle started out by selling cheese at a local farmer’s market, and then decided to use other products available there to debut her first “Classic” grilled cheese. The next summer she kept adding toppings from other market vendors like arugula and jalapeños or honey crisp apples, thus expanding the menu. Gayle V’s eventually opened in Chicago’s bustling Block 37 retail quarter.

Everything is proudly sourced locally and many of these products are sold in the store. The menu has something for everyone including the “Little Italy” (the signature Prairie Pure Butterkäse Cheese, five cheese garlic spread, River Valley heirloom tomato salsa, and Underground Meats pepperoni) or the sought after “Sebastian” (signature cheese and fresh lobster) which is available Fridays only. If you’re in the neighborhood take the trip down to Gayle V’s and taste for yourself!

#2 Grilled Cheeserie: Nashville, TN

Nashville’s favorite food truck turned brick and mortar restaurant opened its first location in 2017 by husband and wife team Jason and Crystal Bogan. They are serving up some of the cheesiest, fantastically flavored creations, from the “Spinach & Artichoke Melt” (swiss, marinated artichokes and housemade white wine parmesan spinach dip with leeks on garlic bread) to the must-have “Turkey B&B of Tennessee” (white cheddar, bacon, house-roasted turkey and herby cranberry jam on multigrain bread). Grilled Cheeserie has a make-your-own melt which includes a vegan option as well.

A stop here must include a treat from the famous Milkshake Bar! Plan accordingly because you definitely want to save room for one of these beauties. We’re all about the “Peanut Butter Cup” (chocolate chocolate chip ice cream, peanut butter, salted caramel, P.B cup crumble) but you may fancy the “Grown Up Sundae” instead (vanilla ice cream, fresh banana, housemade chocolate sauce, bourbon luxardo cherries, whipped cream and peanuts).

Check it out if you find yourself in the “Music City” and prepare to leave happily full!

#1 Ms. Cheezious: Miami, FL

Is it possible for grilled cheese to be sexy? If so, this is it. Everything about Ms. Cheezious is provocative from the bikini-clad image of Ms. Cheezious herself, gracing the food trucks and the brick and mortar location. The menu is just as enticing from the “Frito Pie Melt” (House chilli, American cheese, jalapeños, onions, and Fritos on sourdough bread), “Mackin Melt” (creamy gouda mac n’ cheese with house cured bacon on sourdough bread) to the supreme “Southern Fried Chicken & Waffle Melt” (Southern Fried Chicken & cheddar on housemade buttermilk waffles with house country gravy and maple syrup).

There are as many non-grilled cheese offerings to be excited about including the incredible mac n’ cheese, chili cheese fries, and more craft beer than you can imagine. There is a reason that Ms. Cheezious has received so many awards and accolades over the years- but it’s always best, to taste for yourself!

Keep it #cheesy!!
