Women’s History Month

This month we commemorate the vital role of women in American History. This celebration has been in observance since 1987. Each year there are month-long events to feature trailblazing female pioneers, innovators and leaders in their fields.

We are highlighting some of the key exhibitions:

Girlhood Exhibition- Smithsonian, National Museum of American History

Explores how girls shaped history in health, politics, education, work and fashion. Includes videos, illustrations and real images to reveal the impact of these historical events.

Rosa Parks: In Her Own Words- Library of Congress

The first major exhibition to showcase the Rosa Parks Collection since making its way to the Library of Congress in 2014. This collection includes personal correspondence, letters from presidents, over 2500 photographs and more.

Women’s Rights-National Archives

Commemoration of the centennial of the 19th Amendment. Explores the complex story of the struggle for woman suffrage through historical documents, videos, and historical films that cover a wide range of topics.

The Women of Four Wars-Library of Congress

Explores the role of women in the four major wars after World War II. Traces the advancement of women in military service, and the impact, with potentially more severe consequences.

This is just a peek into the month-long national celebration taking place. For more info on events check out https://womenshistorymonth.gov/ and be on the lookout for local events as well!
