Spotlight: Vanessa Kirby
We are crushing majorly on Vanessa Kirby. If you are not familiar with this superb leading lady..helllooo?? We first fell in love with this British beauty in her breakthrough role as Princess Margaret in the Netflix series The Crown. The alluring brunette won us over with her bright, big, greyish-blue eyes and even larger personality. Kirby left us all dreaming of being a ‘Margaret’, when in reality most of us unfortunately fall into the much less-fiery ‘Elizabeth’ category.
Vanessa Kirby continued her streak of dynamic roles as a bombshell blonde (obsessed) including The White Widow in Mission: Impossible-Fallout and Hattie in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. It’s her latest leading role in another Netflix drama- Pieces of a Woman- that is creating all of the exciting Oscar buzz! Kirby plays leading lady Martha Weiss, (alongside Shia LaBeouf and Ellen Burstyn) whose home-birth ends in tragedy. She takes the viewer on an emotional journey of trauma, grief and personal reformation. It is no question why Ms. Kirby is a front-runner in this year’s Oscar race.
Vanessa Kirby began her career in the theater. As a young girl growing up in Wimbledon, an affluent suburb in southwest London, she had the opportunity to join drama clubs after school. This was an escape for her, as she was severely bullied at the time, as she describes in her interview with Marie Claire UK. The experience did, however, give her a kind of empathy, an emotional understanding, that she would later use in her roles. She found an acceptance in acting that created the burning desire in her heart to push her to chase her dreams, and arrive in the spotlight that is shining so brightly on her today.
One thing is for sure- we will go wherever this captivating lady takes us! Check her out on Netflix and prepare to fall in love, as we have!
